Pharmaceutical Care Approach to Hearing Loss

The ear is a very important sense organ whose mainfunctions are hearing and balancing. It is very sensitiveand plays a role in the detection, and transmission ofsounds. Hepler and Strand (۱) defined pharmaceutical careas: “a patient-centered, outcomes oriented pharmacy practicethat requires the pharmacist to work in concert withthe patient and the patient’s other healthcare providers topromote health, to prevent disease, and to assess, monitor,initiate, and modify medication use to assure that drugtherapy regimens are safe and effective”. The goal of PharmaceuticalCare is to improve the quality of life of the patient,optimize medicines use, achieve definite outcome(۱). It is imperative that we understand the role of pharmacistsin the management and reduction of hearing lossthrough education/counselling and monitoring (۲, ۳).
