چکیده مقاله:

The aim of this paper is to provide a relation between pedestrian gap acceptance and vehicle speed which could be useful in autonomous cars or driving assistant systems. Data of ۱۱۷۴ pedestrians collected including length of gap acceptance, gender, position of crossing, vehicle’s yielding, waiting time, vehicle speed, pedestrian speed and number of lanes. The observation performed by video recording at ۷ mid-block crosswalks in Tehran on weekdays. Various parameters can effect pedestrian gap acceptance including number of lanes and driver’s reaction to pedestrian crossing, but this study focused on the most effective one which is vehicle speed. Pedestrian’s behavior described with the ability of vehicles to stop and avoid collision. Generally, students (۱۳ to ۱۸ years old) have higher gap acceptance than adults. The proposed relations could be useful for vehicle’s reaction to pedestrians crossing at mid-block crosswalks by predicting the likely behavior of pedestrians.
