The Role of Metaphor in Emotional Contagion With Emphasis on Sadness And Happiness Metaphors in Persian Literature

Emotion is a reaction that a person shows to his inner and environmental experiences. Metaphors show how people react to events. Emotional contagion indicates the validity of the quality of human interaction with the outside world and the events around it. The degree of emotion expressed by the content producer reflects his inner world. One of the important roles of language is to better convey each person's emotion to other people. Emotions are abstract concepts that must be expressed as objective concepts in order to be understood, and metaphors are among the best tools for transforming abstract concepts into objective ones. Metaphors evoke various feelings and emotions in the reader's mind by creating different images. The variety of images leads to the variety of emotions that the reader experiences, and this encounter with different and fresh emotions and perceptions is enjoyable, exciting and thought-provoking. In this article, we found that metaphor in Persian literature plays an important role in conveying the emotion and presenting social climate that govern the artist community. Conceptual metaphor in Persian literature, more than any other metaphor, expresses the most tangible emotion of the artist so the audience finds an effective connection with the artist's work which can lead to emotional contagion. In the study of sadness and happiness emotion in Persian texts, we found that in Persian literature, metaphors of happiness are more indexed and transmitted by flying, celebrating, music and confusion, and metaphors for sadness are more in the form of internal pressure.
