Background: Hospital-acquired infections, also called nosocomial infections, refer to infections that appear ۴۸-۷۲ hours after admission in the hospital. The patient has not been infected previously or not in the incubation period at the time of admission. They may be created during a specific period of ۱۰ to ۳۰ days after discharge. Given the important role of nurses in infection control, this study was conducted to determine the extent of infection control and its relation to nurses’ awareness level in all wards of the teaching hospitals in Ilam.Methods: This is a descriptive study and the study population included nurses of all the educational hospital departments is the city of Ilam. For each section, infection control questionnaire was designed and distributed to nurses in all parts of Ilam teaching health hospitals including a statistical sample of ۱۴۳ males and females. Data were classified into two categories of descriptive statistics such as age, gender and inferential statistics for use in statistical tests (Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Pearson correlation). SPSS ۱۹ was used for the data analysis.Results: Overall, the nosocomial infection can be controlled in all departments of the teaching Imam Khomeini Hospital with a mean of (۷۰.۲%) which showed a significant correlation (p= ۰.۰۰۱). Additionally, the results indicated that hospital-acquired infection can be controlled in all departments of the health teaching Mostafa Khomeini Hospital with a mean of (۷۴.۵۰%) (p= ۰.۰۰۱).Conclusion: By increasing nurses’ awareness of all wards of the hospital, hospital-acquired infections can be controlled more than average.
