چکیده مقاله:

Many diabetes-related complications are caused by oxidative stress. In the current study the effect of Cinnamomum cassia against diabetes- induced liver and kidney oxidative stress was evaluated. The male Wistar rats (n=۴۸) were randomly divided into ۶ groups including; control group, received ۵۰۰ ʽL normal saline. Diabetic groups, received streptozotocin (۶۰ mg/kg, i.p.). Cinnamon extract (۱۰۰, ۲۰۰, ۴۰۰ mg/kg) and metformin (۳۰۰ mg/kg) were orally administrated to diabetic rats for ۴۲ days. After experiment period, the animals were anesthetized and the liver and kidney tissues were removed for measurement of the levels of malondialdehyde (MDA), total thiol content, glutathione (GSH), nitric oxide (NO) metabolites, as well as, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities. The level of MDA, SOD and CAT activities were raised, while, total thiol, and NO content were reduced in diabetic animals compared to the control group. Treatment with Cinnamomum cassia extract significantly decrease in MDA level, as well as, SOD and CAT activities in liver and kidney of diabetic rats. In liver and kidney of cinnamon treated groups, GSH and total thiol and NO contents were significantly higher than diabetic group. Cinnamon extract due to potent antioxidant property could be effective in improvement of complications of diabetes.
