Introduction:
Type 2 diabetes is one of the most common metabolic diseases worldwide, especially in developing countries. Due to the increasing number of diabetic patients , there is an urgent need for practical and cost-effective control. Tele nursing is an excellent way to establish and maintain communication between nurses and patients through social communication devices , which helps to solve nurses' shortage, waste of time, and high costs. In recent years, with the advancement of technology, tele nursing has been considered as a new way to control chronic diseases such as diabetes. This review study aimed to investigate the effect of tele nursing on the management of type 2 diabetic patients. Methods: This search was performed in Pubmed, Science Direct, SID, Google Scholar, magiran , NCBI, and Scopus databases with the keywords
Telenursing and Diabetes in Persian and Latin, in the period 2010 to 2019. Two researchers independently reviewed articles related to the study based on inclusion criteria (simultaneous existence of both variables of distance nursing and type 2 diabetes in the abstract and publication date 2010- 2019) and exclusion (lack of access to the full text of the articles). Reviewed by two researchers independently And out of 50 articles, 22 articles were selected after quality evaluation and used in the present study. Results: According to studies, telemedicine was associated with reduced anxiety, increased awareness of the treatment process, decreased blood sugar fluctuations, and greater adherence to treatment in patients with type 2 diabetes, and also reduced hospitalization. A decrease in HbA1c, fasting blood sugar, and postprandial blood glucose (PPG) levels were observed in most studies. Some studies have shown that tele nursing does not affect BMI. One study stated that enhancing the interaction between nurses and patients will increase the treatment program's effectiveness through telemedicine. It should be noted that the effectiveness of the above method varied depending on the age, culture, and level of education of different groups. Conclusion: The general results of studies show that telenursing has positive effects on lowering blood sugar inpatients with type 2 diabetes. This program is also useful in achieving a healthy lifestyle for patients by strengthening self-management behaviors. However; Achieving definitive results requires studies on larger sample sizes and the provision of appropriate infrastructure to replace this method.
