The 2010 Canterbury Earthquake

After decades of building the city of Christchurch New Zealand, and the surrounding regions, about $4 billion damage occurred in just a few seconds but with few full collapses and with no loss of life. This paper describes the type of damage sustained, examines the difference betweenthe damage observed and that expected, and discusses some of the activities conducted after the earthquake.
