چکیده مقاله:

Student development is an indicator used to evaluate the quality of academic development associated with students' engagement in academic activities. This indicator is influenced by various individual and environmental factors. The extant study aimed at identifying the role of some factors affecting the academic engagement of physical education students.Present study is a descriptive study, and its statistical population comprised all of the students studying physical education during 2019-2020. The sample size (n=170) was chosen by using a convenient method. To measure academic engagement, demographic characteristics questionnaire and UWES-9S scale were used.Data analysis indicated that students of physical education studying at the University of Mohaghegh Ardabili had relatively high engagement and enthusiasm to participate in academic activities. The difference between groups showed that gender was the only significant factor among personal characteristics (P>0.01, 2.643), while other factors such as level of education, living in a dormitory or not, and educational background do not play a vital role in academic engagement. The other results showed that there was not any significant association between variables of days attending university, the meetings of students and professors, and academic engagement. There was, however, a direct and significant relationship between students' daily attendance hours and their engagement rate. Moreover, the results of regression analysis proved the significant interactional role of gender and attendance hours in university. The association between these two variables dramatically changed in favor of men by entering gender into the equation.
