A Comparative Analysis of William Wordsworth’s “Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey” and Sohrab Sepehri’s “The Sound of Water’s Footsteps

William Wordsworth (1770-1850) and Sohrab Sepehri (1928-1980) are indeed prominent poets whose works are still widely read. Since their poems are apt choices for a comparative analysis, following a concise reference to romanticism and and its significance, this paper shall examine the affinities between the utilization of the tenets of romanticism in the poems of William Wordsworth and Sohrab Sepehri. It shall be indicated that how Wordsworth deconstructed the principles dominating the composition of poetry in the late eighteenth century. Subsequently, it will be exhibited that Sepehri followed Wordsworth with regard to the irregularity and unconventionality of the language and content of his poetry. Although there are several poems composed by the selected poets that could be included in this study, the present article shall focus on William Wordsworth’s “Lines Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey” and Sohrab Sepehri’s “The Sound of Water’s Footsteps” to trace the convergences between these poems concerning the application of romantic elements
