Abstract: A field experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Research Field, Rice Research Institute of Iran-Rasht during 2012-2013 to study the effect of number of seedlings hill -1 on the yield, yield components and N, K use efficiency in rice (Orysa sativa L.). The experiment was laid out in a randomized complete block design with split plot arrangements. Main plots consisted of four different levels of nitrogen and potassium viz. F0(N0K0), F1 (N45K60), F2(N60K75) and F3 (N90K120) and sub-plots contained (viz. 1, 2, 3 and 4 seedlings hill 1). Results showed that application of N and K fertilizer significantly influenced the plant height, number of tillers, N and K uptake by grain, biological and grain yield. The highest grain yield (3921.8 kg ha -1) was recorded with the F3 (N90K120). The highest effective tillers hill-1, grain and biological yields were found in 4 seedlings hill 1 and the lowest results were found from the 1 and 2 seedlings hill 1. The interaction effect of different doses of N, K and number of seedlings hill-1 was significant in some of the parameters. The treatment combination F3T4 produced the highest effective tillers hill-1, grain and biological yields and N, K uptake by grain. Finally, four seedlings hill-1 and N90K120 (F3T4) were the best performer in respect of yield and yield components.
