The success rate of dental implants depends on various factors, including implant material and structural properties, bone density, and surgical technique. Drilling, as one of the main parts of the dental implant surgery, plays a vital role in the success of implantation. Regarding the effects of drilling parameters on thermal disturbance and damage in bone, and consequently their effects on the stability of dental implants, various studies have been made to date. However, the effect of drilling rotational speed and feed-rate on the primary stability of dental implants, using in-vivo experimental tests, has not been reported yet. In this study, a total of 16 implants (Bionic®, Nickashtasia Inc.; Ti6Al4V, 3.75 mm diameter & 10 mm length) were inserted in four mixed breed dogs’ mandibles. Osteotomies were made using the same drill bits for all subjects (Bionic®, Nickashtasia Inc.; 3.7mm diameter and 10mm length), with two different rotational speeds, i.e. 800 rpm and 1500 rpm, and two feed-rates of 1 mm/s and 2 mm/s. The primary stability values of dental implants were measured using an Osstell® device, immediately after the surgery. Results of the two-way ANOVA statistical analysis on the stability quotients showed that changing drilling speed from 800rpm to 1500rpm and feed-rate from 1mm/s to 2mm/s have no specific impact on the primary stability of dental implants.
