Effects of Sevin on DNA breakage in the liver in Aphanius sophiae (Coad, 1988)

The present study investigated effects of sevin on DNA breakage in the liver ofAphanius sophiae in the laboratory condition. Over 9 days, the specimens wereexposed to sevin at the concentrations 0, 0.5, 1 and 1.5 mg LP-1. At days 1, 5 and 9, the liver samples were collected and kept in microtupes containing ethyl alcohol.DNA was extracted using the Cinapure DNA kit. The extracted DNA was run on theelectrophoretic gel and photographed. No significant relationship was detectedbetween the concentration of the poison and DNA breakage percentage. Exposuretime had a significant effect on DNA breakage. Changes of DNA breakage in theliver, had different trends over time such that the highest DNA breakage was foundin day 5 in the liver. Then, a significant decrease in DNA breakage percentage wasfound in this tissue suggesting recovery mechanisms in liver.
