چکیده مقاله:

The progressive collapse defines as the expansion of the sequential failure of adjoining structural elements, which ultimately leads to failure of the entire structure or a large part of it. One of the latest seismic resistant systems for a building undergoes progressive collapse, when a primary structural element fails, is the Steel Plate Shear Wall lateral system known as SPSW, is characterized by high-ductility behavior and acceptable resistance, which can be used as an efficient resistant system. In this study, after theoretical discussions and code regulations evaluation on the progressive collapse, a 21-story high-rise building in Tehran in Iran with a Special Moment Frames (SMF) along with a steel plate shear wall due to a projectile impact, such as a helicopter, simulated and gone through an explosion and local destruction. The results show that, under normal conditions, stresses in the steel plate shear wall are three to five times greater than that of the Serviceability limit state. Although the steel plate shear wall system with the diagonal tension field mechanism has a suitable capability for controlling local damage and preventing its devastating consequences, this process is primarily depending on the number of columns which has been affected by the impact.
