The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the notion of Im(politeness) as one of the features of the human condition in the twentieth century. On the basis of close reading of postmodern play Buried child (1984) known as the modernist aspects of absurd. Therefore, benefitting from the tenets of linguistic strategies which are used by Sam Shepard (1948-2017) to convey his message, the paper attempts to offer an understanding of Im(politeness) in American culture. The harmony of a family can be destroyed due to addiction or death of parents or siblings. The life of the remaining ones will change. Family members should support, encourage and protect each other The concept of dysfunctional familial relationship is a recurrent theme in modern drama, and it is often used as a device to convey social fears and conventions. A stylistic analysis of language, as a subtle locus for practicing power, can pave the way to decode a literary text’s underlying theme(s).
