چکیده مقاله:

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate the notion of Im(politeness) as one of the features of the human condition in the twentieth century. On the basis of close reading of postmodern play Buried child (1984) known as the modernist aspects of absurd. Therefore, benefitting from the tenets of linguistic strategies which are used by Sam Shepard (1948-2017) to convey his message, the paper attempts to offer an understanding of Im(politeness) in American culture. The harmony of a family can be destroyed due to addiction or death of parents or siblings. The life of the remaining ones will change. A person suffers and he/she cannot have healthy relationships with others. Family members should support, encourage and protect each other The concept of dysfunctional familial relationship is a recurrent theme in modern drama, and it is often used as a device to convey social fears and conventions. A dysfunctional family is a family in which conflict and misbehavior regularly occur. The quality of parental monitoring is influenced by different factors such as divorce, serious financial distress, drug, abuse and mental illness. A stylistic analysis of language, as a subtle locus for practicing power, can pave the way to decode a literary text’s underlying theme(s). For instance, the use of language in Buried child s Sam Shepard(1984) can be investigated as representative one of its ideological dimensions.
