سروو موتور و کنترل زاویه ای در ربات ها: از سیگنال PWM تا بازخورد موقعیت / Servo Motors and Angular Position Control in Robots: From PWM Signals to Position Feedback
The servo motor is one of the most widely used actuators in robotics: a DC motor, a reduction gearbox, a control circuit, and a position-feedback sensor in a compact package. Unlike a plain DC motor, which only controls speed, a servo can hold its shaft at a specific angle — a feature that makes it the first choice for robot-arm joints, grippers, and humanoid robots.
A servo works on a closed feedback loop: the controller compares the target position with the actual shaft position, and the difference — the position error — is converted by a controller, usually PID, into a drive signal that turns the motor through an H-bridge until the error reaches zero. In hobby servos, the command is a PWM signal at 50 Hz with a 20 ms period: a 1 ms pulse means 0 degrees, 1.5 ms is the centre (90 degrees), and 2 ms means 180 degrees. Feedback usually comes from a potentiometer, which is cheap but short-lived and imprecise; more precise servos use absolute or incremental encoders.
Servos come in analogue and digital types. Analogue servos update at about 50 Hz, while digital ones update at up to around 300 Hz, giving a faster response and more holding torque, but higher power consumption and cost. Coreless motors are lighter and faster, and brushless versions offer longer life and higher efficiency for heavy, continuous-duty use.
Common servo specifications differ greatly: the SG90, weighing 9 grams, delivers 1.8 kg·cm at 4.8 V, while the MG996R provides 11 kg·cm at 6 V for heavier joints, and the DS3218 reaches 20 kg·cm. Smart servos such as the Dynamixel XL430, with about 1.4 N·m of torque and digital feedback, enable precise multi-joint control.
Despite these advantages, servos have limits: rotation is usually limited to 180 degrees, and continuous-rotation versions lose absolute position. Stall current is several times the no-load current — in the MG995, 2.5 A versus 500 mA — and the resulting heat demands a separate supply and thermal management. Gearbox backlash also reduces repeatability. Choosing the right servo means balancing torque, speed, accuracy, and power consumption.
