Background: Propofol is commonly used for providing sedation in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). It’s simple to use and effective but presents cardiovascular and respiratory adverse effects. Recently, dexmedetomidine has been tried but very little evidence exists to support its use.
