چکیده مقاله:

The present study aimed to investigate the impact of consciousness raising of CDA on advanced Iranian EFL learners’ motivation. To achieve this purpose, among 90 EFL learners, 61 male and female participants with the age range of 25 to 32 with advanced language proficiency level were chosen, all taking a PET (Preliminary English Test) first, for homogenization prior to the study. They were randomly assigned to two separate groups, control and experimental. Both groups studied the same material (New York Times, case of 5+1negotiations) during one month which consisted of eight sessions, two sessions in each week. The only difference was the method of engaging the participants for doing the course activities: the experimental group was taught through Fairclough s CDA model, the micro stage concerning with textual analysis, while the control group was taught through traditional method. The instrument used in the study was a motivation questionnaire which was administered to both groups. The students’ pretest and posttest results were analyzed by independent and dependent sample t-tests. Then, the data analyses were to compare the participants’ performances before and after the treatment. The results indicates that paired samples t-test found a statistically significant increase (t (29) = 5.39, p = .000, p < .05) in motivation scores from the pretest ( =258.80, SD = 27.41) to the posttest ( = 277.63, SD = 29.47) in the experimental group and the gained-score in motivation was 18.83 with a .95% confidence interval ranging from 11.68 to 25.98. Likewise, the t-test detected a statistically significant increase (t (30) = 5.95, p = .000, p < .05) in motivation measures fromthe pretest ( = 255.81, SD = 25.59) to the posttest ( = 259.48, SD = 26.18) in thecontrol group. Moreover, the gained score was 3.68 with a .95% confidence interval ranging from 2.42 to 4.94. In general, the two groups experience considerable development in the motivation from the pretest to the posttest;nevertheless the gained score for the experimental group was much bigger than the control group
