چکیده مقاله:

The current study aimed to explore the relationship between test taking strategies and speaking strategies. Indeed it intended to see whether any of the six speaking strategies of learning and test taking could help test takers improve speaking ability among Iranian EFL learners. For this purpose, 60 Iranian EFL learners whose age ranged between 18 and 25 participated in this study. The participants were students of civil engineering at Islamic Azad University, Najafabad Branch. The required data were collected through an Oxford Placement Test as well as responding to two questionnaires (Speaking Strategies and Language Learning Strategies) followed by a researcher_made interview. To analyze the data six Pearson Product_ Moment correlation analyses were done on the data. The results indicated that there was a significant relationship between speaking strategies of test taking compensation and metacognitive strategies of test taking.Memory, cognitive, social, and affective strategies of test taking were not correlated with speaking strategies. It was concluded that using gestures, definitions, and examples can be exploited by Iranian EFL learners to improve their speaking ability. Moreover monitoring comprehension and self_assessment are among the strategies which are applied more by such learners.
