چکیده مقاله:

The main goal of this research was to investigate the effect of using music lyrics on intermediate EFL learners listening skill. To achieve this goal 20 Iranian EFL learners studying in Kimia Institute in Shiraz, took part in this study assigned into experimental and control groups. An OPT test administered to check the homogeneity of the participants at the beginning of the study. Prior to the experiment, they were pre -tested through a listening test of IELTS in order to determine their proficiency level. After the pretest, the researcher started the treatment in experimental group. The treatment for the experimental group lasted for 10 sessions. In each session, at the beginning, 45 minutes out of 90 minutes of the total class time were devoted to practicing one English song. During each session of treatment (90 minutes) the songs were played in the class following three phases of pre-listening, while -listening, and post-listening. Meanwhile, the control group had their usual teacher -fronted class without listening to songs. At the end of the treatment, the same pretest was used as the posttest to examine the effect of music lyrics on EFL learners’ listening comprehension. The results of Independent Samples T-test and Paired-Samples T-test indicated that there were significant differences between the experimental group and the control group in terms of their listening comprehension, while all the groups had been equal regarding the materials, teacher and amount of instruction except in the song training that was specific for the experimental group. According to the results, practicing song technique had significant effects on EFL learners’ listening comprehension
