Given the crucial role of cross-cultural communication in students’ success both socially and academically, ESL and EFL instructors have encouraged to incorporate different aspects of culture into their lesson plans. This dual-purpose curriculum will then focus on both communicative competence as well as language proficiency. This paper starts with the different perspectives on communicative competence (CC) and intercultural communicative competence (ICC) respectively. It then explains what teachers need to teach in order to help their students develop their ICC. Finally, the paper touches on the appropriate method that teachers need to adopt when incorporating ICC into their lesson plans
