چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim : Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder and Insulinresistance is an important metabolic complication in this syndrome which increases the risk of dyslipidemiaand cardiovascular disease. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship of lipid profile andinsulin resistance in women with PCOS in comparison with a control groupMethods : This case-control study was conducted on45PCOS women and45 healthy controls aged 18-35.Lipid profile including total cholesterol , triglyceride,HDL-c and fasting plasma glucose and insulin wasmeasured. Insulin resistance and LDL-c was calculated by formula. Anthropometric measurements wereevaluated in all subjects. Data analyses were carried out using the SPSS software(version16),Independentsample T-test and spearman correlation tests. Statistical significance was considered at P <0.05.Results : Serum total cholesterol, fasting insulin and insulin resistance in PCOS group was significantlyhigher than healthy group (P<0.05). There was a significant positive correlation between triglyceride andinsulin(r=0.456,P=0.002). No significant relationship was found between total cholesterol , LDL-c, HDLcand insulin resistance in PCOS and controls. Conclusion : women with PCOS had higher serum cholesterol and insulin resistance in comparison withhealthy wemon. Insulin resistance was positively correlated with triglyceride in PCOS group.
