چکیده مقاله:

Background: The relation of placental gross morphology and the outcome of Pregnanciescomplicated with diabetes mellitus in comparison with healthy pregnancies are not known.Identifying significant differences in pregnancy outcomes in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM)and healthy pregnancies by the mean of morphologic measurements can induce the use ofantenatal ultrasonography of placental parameters to predict pregnancy outcomes. Objectives: This study was aimed to evaluate the relationship between placental morphologicalparameters of the placenta and cord and the outcome of pregnancicomplicated with diabetesmellitus.Material and methods: This is a case-control study of 60 mothers with GDM who were controlledwith either diet or insulin, and 60 healthy mothers. GDM was diagnosed either by 75g or by 100goral glucose tolerance test. Placenta parameters, umbilical cord features and newborn outcomeswere compared between the two groups. Data were analyzed analyzed descriptively andinferentially by SPSS version 45 21 software. Results: placental weight, diameter, amount of lobes, thickness, placental weight to newbornweight ratio, place of umbilical cord insertion, length, coiling, and diameter. of the umbilical cordare similar in well-controlled GDM pregnancy and pregnancy 49 without GDM. Newborn weight,NICU admission, ABG, Agar score are the same 50 in well-controlled GDM pregnancy and pregnancywithout GDM.Conclusion: good-controlled GDM causes no difference in placental gross morphology andpregnancy outcome compared to a healthy pregnancy.
