THE EFFECT OF VIRTUAL REALITY ON PAIN RELIEF, DURING PROCEDURE IN EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

Background and Aim : Due to the high exposure of physicians in crowded emergencydepartments with acne patients, the use of an effective method for the development of analgesiacan lead to satisfaction of patients and therapists. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate theeffect of virtual reality on reducing the pain of emergency patients during the procedure wasdesigned and performed.Methods : This clinical trial study was performed on 80 patients referred to Hazrat Rasoul-e-Akram, Firoozgar and Haft Tir Hospitals in 2018, who needed to perform a suture. Suture wasstarted after local anesthesia. After obtaining the consent, patients were given 3D glasses for themovie to be displayed and the restart was continued, and then the pain score of the patient weremeasured without glasses and while watching the movie with the glasses, using the scale of thescore Numerical scale and patient satisfaction was measured based on Likert scale. Data wasanalyzed by SPSS software.Results : The mean of pain severity before the use of virtual glasses was 4.87 ± 1.26 and theaverage pain intensity after using virtual glasses was 2.13 ± 1.32. The severity of pain after the useof virtual glasses was significantly lower (P = 0.028). Patients satisfaction for pain before the useof virtual glasses was 1.44 ± 0.52 and after using it was 3.20 ± 0.64, which indicates that patients satisfaction for pain reduction after using the virtual glasses has significantly increased (p = 0.033).Conclusion : Using virtual reality has a positive effect on pain relief in patients and can be usedin hospitals to reduce pain and increase their satisfaction.
