Churg-strauss

Churg-Strauss syndrome is a disease characterized by inflammation of the small and medium sized blood vessels. It usually occurs in patients with a history of asthma or allergy. Symptoms of Churg-Strauss syndrome include fatigue, weight loss, nasal passage inflammation, numbness, weakness, .... The ultimate test for the diagnosis is a biopsy of involved tissue. Treatment of Churg-Strauss syndrome involves stopping inflammation and suppressing the immune system.Case Report The patient was a 50-year-old man who visited at hospital due to gait impairment and paresthesia at his foot that at that time due to severe neurological exam with GBS the patient went on IVIG treatment after his course of treatment due to refractory of his symptoms the rheumatologist consult was requested. In rheumatologist s examinations, the clinical signs and symptoms was compatible with Mononeuritis multiplex. After physical exam and due to his lab test that was elevated ESR, CRP , ANCA and eosinophilia in CBC, with history of severe asthma that became better after neurological symptoms the diagnosis of CSS was the best diagnosis for him. Sural nerve biopsy was compatible with vasculitis. Conclusion Churg-Strauss syndrome is a serious disease that can be fatal. Untreated it is extremely dangerous and threatens the organs that are affected. With aggressive treatment and monitoring it can be quieted and total inactivation of the disease (remission) is possible.
