A report of three cases of cutaneous anthrax in Iran, a public health issue of continuing concern in Iran

چکیده مقاله:

Anthrax is a zoonotic acute infectious disease caused by the development of spore-forming Bacillus anthracis that can affect almost all warm-blooded animals, including humans which can cause illness and death. The vast majority of patients (95%) present with cutaneous anthrax with the remainder (5%) presenting as a respiratory or gastrointestinal syndrome. Risk factors for cutaneous anthrax include: contact with livestock two weeks prior to symptoms, living in endemic areas and contact with livestock products . Thus cutaneous anthrax is also a work-related disease that is often seen in farmers, butchers, tannins, wool store keepers and veterinarians. In this article we are going to report three case of cutaneous Anthrax that had a same exposure. The three cases of cutaneous anthrax that we are reporting indicate the importance of a physicians attention to anthrax disease as a result of exposure to infected animals in Iran.
