چکیده مقاله:

Bisphenol A (BPA) is an organic synthetic chemical and emerging pollutant in the environment which is widely used in plastic containers, plastic bottles, dental sealants, and water pipe wall. Therefore there is a high risk for human exposure. Since it mimics the estrogen structure, there is a potential risk of developing breast cancer. Bisphenol A reportedly has various toxic effects on liver and testis and may result in metabolic syndrome. Other studies demonstrate that BPA crosses the blood-brain barrier and as a consequence causes cognitive impairment along with increased aggression, hyperactivity disorder. The toxicity mechanism, however, remains largely unknown. But BPA may induce its toxic effect through various mechanisms such as inducing apoptosis, micro RNA alteration, inflammation, and endocrine disruption. It also decreases anti-oxidant enzymes including superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and catalase resulting in reactive oxygen species generation. In this study, we aimed to investigate the protective effects of different medicinal plants on bisphenol A. A wide number of medicinal plants have been used to prevent or reduce hazardous effects of BPA. These may include Curcuma Longa, Vitis vinifera, Cinnamomum verum, Zingiber officinale, Panax quinquefolius, etc.
