Effect Of Wound Care On The Self-esteem In Pediatric Patients With Burns, A Literature Review

Introduction: Pediatric burn injury results in significant mortality and morbidity, from which some children will experience prolonged psychological and social difficulty. Due to the nature of the injury when patients’ recovery times are lengthy, consideration of the child’s psychosocial needs must also be part of the total plan of care. This article aims to compare children’s self-esteem before and after new methods of wound care was noticed and to introduce these methods.Methods and material: The most relevant literature published from 2015 to 2019 in the field of wound care on the self-esteem in pediatric patient whit burns, keywords: wound care, self-est Keywords: Wound care, self-esteem and pediatric burns. Eem, pediatric patient. Database search was conducted through google scholar and PubMed The presented article focuses on the result obtained from this review.Result: 25 article were selected. Self-esteem related issues and Wound management procedures in pediatrics, ways of nursing and social support in psychological adjustment of children who have suffered from burn injuries were assessed. Also comparison of children self-esteem level before and after new methods of wound care was noticed.Conclusion: Although burns are a form of trauma that optimally require multi-disciplinary care, they have often been managed without attention to psychological aspects specially in children.This study showed that organized wound management has acceptable functional and psychological consequences, especially in increasing the children’s self-esteem and accelerating wound healing.so it is approved that appropriate wound care procedure is important in the resolution of problems caused by severe burns.
