چکیده مقاله:

BACKGROUND: Diabetes is one of the most common diseases with many complications. One of the problems of these patients is failure to heal chronic wounds that lead to amputation.Ozone therapy is an alternative medical method in which ozone is used as a gas, liquid or solution, orally and intravenously. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of ozone hydrotherapy in diabetic foot ulcer healing.METHOD: This review study was conducted by reviewing and summarizing interventional articles from authoritative scientific sites PubMed, Cochrane and Magiran with key words of diabetic foot ulcer healing, ozone therapy, ozone hydrotherapy during 2013 to 2019.RESULTS: The findings suggest that ozone plays a role in the treatment of chronic ulcers, especially diabetic foot ulcers, through increased regional oxygen supply, stimulation of growth factor production, control of inflammatory processes, and increased blood supply to the wound site. Patients who received ozone hydrotherapy at conventional diabetic foot wound healing treatments, such as debridement and dressing, were higher than patients treated with conventional treatment alone. Wound infection has not been observed in studies of ozone-treated patients under the same conditions as other patients undergoing routine treatment due to the antimicrobial, antifungal and antibacterial properties of ozone.CONCLUSION: The studies provides clinical evidence which ozone hydrotherapy is a safe and effective aid method for diabetic foot ulcer healing, but more must be done to fully understand the role of ozone hydrotherapy in diabetic foot ulcer healing.
