چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: Diabetes Type 1(T1D) is the most common endocrine-metabolic disorder of childhood and adolescence, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is one of the most important acute complications of T1D and associated with significant morbidity and mortality. The aim of this study is survey about frequency of DKA in new case patients with type I diabetes. Materials & Methods: Data from 144 new cases of T1D admitted to the hospital between 2005 and 2015 were reviewed. The studied variables included age, sex,new case of disease, season, place of living, ,family history of diabetes type 1 in parents and sibling ,cause of admission, ,infection, duration of hospitalization, recovery of diabetic ketoacidosis, blood glucose and arterial PH at admission. The data was collected by questionnaire and analyzed by SPSS software. Results: Out of 144 patients, 60.4% were females. 84.3% of patients admitted for the first time with diabetic ketoacidosis and 15.7% with hyperglycemia. 5.7% werents had a positive family history of type 1 diabetes. The mean glucose was 496.91±154.38 mg. Mean age at diagnosis was 7.38±3.23 years. The mean BMI 17.05±2.63kg/m2. 2.5, 28 and 69.5 percent of patients had mild, moderate, and severe DKA respectively. Conclusion & discussion: The increased incidence of diabetes in girls is due to the fact that the female sex is a risk factor for autoimmune diseases. On the other hand, a greater incidence of ketoacidosis in the onset of the disease in our study, was due to insufficient information about the disease
