چکیده مقاله:

The annual fire has always caused irreparable damage to man and the environment around him and there has been an effort to combat it. One way to combat fire is to provide fire protection and flame retardant coatings. Flame retardation can be act in the form of chemical and physical ways. Chemical compounds such as aluminum and magnesium hydroxides, which are decomposed at temperatures of 200 and 300 ° C, respectively, reduce the heat energy and prevent the development of fire by producing an endothermic reaction. In general, some of the most famous materials with flame retardant properties are some of the metal hydroxides, chloride compounds, organic phosphorous compounds, nitrogen-based compounds, boron compounds and etc. These compounds when pyrolysis produces non-flammable gases such as CO2, H2O, NOx and Sox which can prevent the spread of fire. Flame retardants are usually used as a blend with different resins for coating. Use of these materials in the polymer structure can lead to a flame retardant coating. Another method is to bond these compounds into a polymer structure that can be made flame retardant additives. This study aims to synthesize an epoxy compound, including boron, to be used as a flame retardant additive in epoxy resins. For this purpose, 1 mol of phenylboronic acid was reacted with epoxy resin 828 at 110 °C in the presence of tetrabutylammonium bromide catalyst for 4 h. The synthesized additive after characterization was added to epoxy resin 828 at 10, 15 and 20% ratios and the effect of flame resistance was investigated. The results showed that with increasing amount of epoxy compound containing boron the flame retardant of coating increased.
