ON THE APPLICATIONS OF ACOUSTIC METAMATERIALS

Metamaterials are artificial composites arranged to perform beyond their ingredients featur-ing properties such as zero or negative refractive index. With such properties, metamaterials find numerous applications ranging from electromagnetic, to optical, mechanical and acoustic and transport.This review is mostly focused on the general case of acoustic metamaterials, which can result in super-lenses, hyper-lenses and sound absorbers by manipulating sound waves. The paper outlines the fundamental bounds of these composites and summarizes the state of the art de-signs and experimental realizations.
