Background and Aim : A fundamental issue in addiction is relapse whose pivotal relation to the addict him / herself is quite obvios , because at last she / he is who decides to continue or quit drug abuse . Methods : For determining individual protective factors against relapse , 200 (NA) Participants of shiraz were selected . Half of them were relapsed and the other 100 participants were not relapsed after 6 months . The instrument for gathering information was consisted of a demographic & a personality questionnaire named as NEO test which detects Neuro ticism , Eutraversion , openness to Experiences , Agreeableness and concientiosness . Statistical test use for analysing data was T-Test Results : The findings of showed that in 3 traits the NEO test, namely agreeableness , extraversion and conscientiousness , the score of the non relapse group was higher, but in neuroticism ( was lower than the relapse group), and in all four cases, with the exception of the openness to experience feature, there was a significant difference between the two groups. Demographic variables were also significant in two fields of age and marital status between the two groups (mean age of non relapse group 34 years and marital status were more married, while the mean age of relapse group was 30 years, mostly single or aborted , But there was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of employment status and education level.Conclusion : According to the findings of the research, the personality aspects such as Concientiousness, Agreeableness, Extraversion and the Neuroticism, and the demographic dimension such as having a higher age (It can be more experienced) and being married (which results in the lack of loneliness and provision of emotional support), can be effective in prevention of relapse of addicts
