PREDICTING ADDICTION PREPARATION BASED ON BIG FIVE PERSONALITY TRAITS

Background and Aim : There are several factors that affect the addiction preparation, which in turn interact with each other, triggers consumption and then addiction. One of this factors is big five personality traits. The purpose of this study was to Predicting addiction preparation based on big five personality traits.Methods : The method of this research is descriptive-correlational. The statistical population of this study was high school girl s students of Zaynab School. Random sampling method was used in this study and 154 students answered the questionnaires. After completing the questionnaires, students returned them to the researchers. Measurement tools include Zargar Iranian Addiction Potential Scale and Neo Five Factor Inventory. Then data was analyzed by Pearson correlation and multiple regression. Results : The findings showed that there was significant positive correlation between neuroticism and addiction preparation and negative correlation between agreeableness and addiction preparation (P≤ 0.01). The results of multiple regression analysis showed that neuroticism with positive beta coefficient (B = 0.23) and agreeableness with negative beta coefficient (B = - 0.30) is able to predict the readiness of addiction in high school girl s students of Zaynab School. Finally, these variables were able to explain 26 percent of variance of addiction preparation (R2 = 0.26). Conclusion : According to the results of the research it can be said that, big five personality traits can play a significant role in the addiction preparation in high school students, and the need to pay attention to them in addiction prevention programs should be considered.
