EFFECTIVENESS OF COMBINING THE ISLAMIC SPIRITUALITY THERAPY AND MINDFULNESS ON STRESS AND DISTRESS TOLERANCE OF ADDICTS

Background and Aim : Addiction is one of the social injuries that is complex. Addiction to alter thoughts, emotions, and behaviors is one of the most important psychosocial harms that can easily eliminate a person s individual, family, and social life. The objective of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of combining Islamic spirituality therapy and Mindfulness on stress and distress tolerance of addicts.Methods : The present study was experimental design and pre-test, post-test, control with follow-up. The statistical population of the study consisted of all addicts in Tehran in 2018 that were selected by using convenience sampling method by using inclusion and exclusion criteria then 20 subjects were randomly assigned in two experimental and control groups (each group 10 addicts). The experimental group was treated with a combination of Islamic spiritual therapy and mindfulness therapy in 8 sessions of 90 minutes, while the control group did not receive any treatment. The instruments used in this study included distress tolerance scale and stress scale, which were performed in the pre-test, post-test and follow-up stages on the participants in all two groups.Results : The results of repeated ANOVA measure showed that in post-test and follow-up stages the intervention group had a significant effect on tolerance of distress and stress. Treatment was also accepted during the follow-up phaseConclusion : According to the results, combining Islamic Spirituality Therapy and Mindfulness in substance abuser can reduce stress and increase distress tolerance. Therefore, it is recommended that therapists use this treatment as an intervention method besides the main treatment of addicted people.
