INVESTIGATING THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN IMPULSIVITY AND MOBILE DEPENDENCY: DETERMINING THE MEDIATING ROLE OF EMOTIONAL INSTABILITY

Background and Aim : The aim of this study was to Investigating the relationship between impulsivity and mobile dependency: determining the mediating role of emotional instability.Methods : 225 students were selected by convenience sampling from students of Bahonar University of Kerman. Participants filled out the emotional stability test, BIS-11, and 20-item mobile dependency questionnaire. Then, data were analyzed by using correlation and structural equation modeling tests.Results : Findings indicated that there is a significant correlation between impulsivity and emotional instability with mobile dependency. The statistical model for measuring the mediating role of emotional instability in the relationship between impulsivity and mobile dependency fitted well with the data. The effect of emotional instability on phone dependency was statistically significant. Impulsivity (P <0.01, b = 0.42) had a significant effect on emotional instability.Conclusion : Impulsivity and emotional instability had a significant correlation with mobile dependency, but when impacted by a model, impulsivity had stronger and more predictive effects on mobile dependency.
