A REVIEW OF INSTRUMENTS IN SEXUAL ADDICTION ASSESSMENT

Background and Aim : Interest in studying sexual addiction has elevated among researchers and clinicians in the past decade. Also, professional interest in sexual addiction has been caused to an increase in instruments to measure this construct. This article provides a review of instruments designed to measure sexual addictionMethods : nineteen instruments has been reviewed by the authors for assessing sexual addiction. For each instrument, the authors describe number of items, subscale/scoring, samples studied, reliability and validity. Results : It is obvious from the review that the instruments vary in terms of conceptual basis, samples studied, evidence for reliability and validity. Each instrument has individual strengths and weaknesses and deciding on proper instrument for diagnosis and practice is a challenge for researchers and clinicians.Conclusion : Sexual addiction has been known as a growing problem in recent years. Regardless of an increase in instruments used to measure sexual addiction, our weakness in theory of sex addiction, hinder our progress in diagnosis and treatment.
