چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim : Attention to the family performance of those with addiction is of significant importance. Among the important factors that can have a relationship with family performance are personality traits. Costa and McCrae (1992) identified five personality factors in relation to personality structure, including neurotisism, extraversion, openness experience, agreeableness and conscientiousness. These five personality factors can explain family performance. Accordingly, the purpose of the study was to predict family performance based on the personality traits of male addicted while entering Hamedan province prisons. Methods : The research method was correlation. The population was male addicts upon entering Hamedan province prisons in the winter of 2018. The sample size was determined using the Cochran formula (1977) as 648 people selected by simple random sampling and responded to Epstein, Baldwin, and Bishop (1983) Family Assessment Device developed based on the Mc-Master Model and Costa and McCrae (1992) NEO-Five Factor Inventory. Data was analyzed using stepwise multiple regression. Results : The results of adjusted squared correlation coefficient showed that personality trait of conscientiousness, neurotisism, and agreeableness explained 0.40 of the variance in the family performance of the male addicted prisoners. Moreover, the results showed that personality traits could significantly predict the family performance of male addicted prisoners (F (3,644) =143.562, P <0.01). Considering the standardized beta weights, one can state that one standard deviation change in personality traits of conscientiousness, neurotisism, and agreeableness would cause 0.50, -0.19 and 0.06 changes in the standard deviation of the family performance of addicted prisoners. Conclusion : The personality traits of conscientiousness, neurotisism, and agreeableness could explain and predict the the family performance of male addicted prisoners. Thus, it is recommended that by providing psychological counseling, the context is provided for rehabilitation of personality traits and thus enhancing the family performance of male addicted prisoners.
