چکیده مقاله:
Background and Aim : Identifying the factors related to the students tendency to substance abuse can have a significant role in preventing addiction in this group. The study was conducted to determine the mediating role of moral intelligence (MI) in the relationship between personality traits with potential acceptance and of addiction among the students of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences. Methods : The study was descriptive-correlational. The population was all PhD students of Zanjan University of Medical Sciences in the academic year 2018-2019 who were 1468 people. The sample size was determined using Cochran method as 314 people, registered using stratified random sampling method. Data was collected using standard questionnaires of Lennick and Keil s MI questionnaire, NEO Five-Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI), addiction potential scale, (APS) and addiction acceptance scale (AAS). Out of 314 distributed questionnaires, 293 complete questionnaires were analyzed. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression tests, and the mediating role of MI was determined using the Baron and Kenny four-step method. Results : There was a significant relationship between neuroticism and addiction potential (P=0.008 and r=0.281), neuroticism and addiction acceptance (P=0.003 and r=0.321), passion for fresh experiences with addiction acceptance (P=0.002 and r=0.391) and conscientiousness with addiction acceptance (P=0.003 and r=-0.316). The results of multiple regression showed that the related personality traits could significantly predict addiction potential and acceptance (P<0.05). Finally, the mediating role of MI, using Baron and Kenny four-step method, showed that this is a mediating variable between personality traits and potential and acceptance. Conclusion : Neuroticism and passion for fresh experiences can be effective in student tendency towards substance abuse. Moreover, consciousness and MI can moderate students tendency towards substance abuse.
