The third wage, EMDR and the bottom-up approach in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Clinical and experimental data increasingly demonstrate that it is reasonable to associate the traditional analysis of the mental processes and the top-down clinical interventions to the investigation of bottom-up mental phenomena and at the same time of the therapeutic tools that can facilitate changes in higher-order mental functions from the bottom up.A large part of the so-called third wave therapies can be viewed in lightof this idea.In this symposium, we will present and discuss some new-generation techniques, mainly of an experiential nature, that can be categorized as bottom-up therapeutic procedures aimed at improving top-down regulation. In particular, Guided Imagery and Rescripting, Roleplay, Sensorimotor Therapy, and EMDR are going to be presented.
