The study of surgical team knowledge from Electrocauterization smoke’s complications in Allameh Bohlool Gonabad᾿s educational hospital

Introduction: Electrocauterization smoke is a plume that produced from the interaction of tissue and heat-producing equipment like electrocautery. This smoke consists of hazardous material that causes complications such as respiratory disorders, nausea, vomiting, eye irritation, headache, transmitting the viruses HPV and hepatitis. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the surgical team knowledge of these complications in Allameh Bohlool Gonabad s educational hospital. Material & Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive-analytic study that data of 100 participants collected by census method using a questionnaire. Obtained data were analyzed by SPSS 20 and Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney nonparametric tests. Then measured relationship between surgical team knowledge with gender, level of education and work experience. The significance level was considered P < 0.05.Results: In this study, the highest number of participants was related to women (62.7%), work experience of 0-10 (78.4%) and Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) (66.6%). We has measured the relationship between knowledge of surgical smoke complications and gender, level of education and work experience. Results of the Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests was not significant (P > 0.05). The other, there was no significant relationship between knowledge and gender, level of education and work experience. Mean ± SD score of participant Knowledge was 8.92 ± 3.98, so that 64.7% had poor knowledge, 39.2% moderate knowledge level and 1.96% of participants had a good score. The lowest knowledge was related to women (41.1%), work experience of 0-10 (45.09%) and B.Sc. (45.09%). Conclusion: Awareness of the dangers of surgical smoke is responsible for job security and professional organization and provides a smoke-free environment for patients and the surgical team. As regards the knowledge of surgical team from electrocauterization smoke’s complications in Allameh Bohlool Gonabad᾿s educational hospital is poor; this strategy is recommended that the level of knowledge of healthcare personnel be upgraded by a workshop or pamphlet.
