Happiness of women in Slums , South of Iran-Shiraz

Introduction: Living in slums has specific problems of mental, physical and social health. The aim of this study was to evaluate the happiness of women living in slums in, Shiraz , south of Iran and its determinant factors.Method: This study is a cross sectional study on all 542 adult women with age of 18 and higher living in the region that is known as a slum of Shiraz, south of Iran. Postal codes of this neighborhood were taken from Shiraz Post Office and all of these codes were determined in the map that was taken from Shiraz municipality. In each postal code all the women with age of 18 years and higher were questioned for level of happiness and its related factors due to happiness report of WHO 2017 and standard GHQ28 by an under web program. Analysis was done with SPSS version 21 and significant level was 0,05.Results: Total number of participants was542 .Mean age of women was 43.4-16.88, , 26.8%(145) were illiterate,62.7%(340) were married, 74.9%(406) were unemployed or housekeeper. The level of happiness due to ladder score(0 to 10) was 6.47-2. 09h. Higher level of happiness was seen in younger (p=0.001, r=-1.44), high educated (p=0.03), manager(p<0.001) and single women(p<0.001).Job satisfaction(p<0.001, r=0.34),income satisfaction(p<0.001,r=0.43) belief of corruption in society (p=0.04,r=-0.05) and having social support(p<0.001) had significant correlation with happiness. Happiness was not correlate with migration(p=0.06). All four subgroup of General Health(due to GHQ), somatic symptoms, anxiety and insomnia, social dysfunction and severe depression, had significant correlation with happiness(p<0.001,r=0.47,r=-0.41,r=-0.1,r=-0.35 respectively).Conclusion: socioeconomic status ,social support and health are correlated factors with happiness in women who are living in slums .Massage for policymakers: planning for improvement of social support in community and health status could be effective in happiness of people.
