Frequency of head louse infestation in the students of Sanandaj city and related factors, 2017

Background: Head lice are the insects that are parasites of human body and they are one of the most important problems in the health. The present study was done aimed to determine of head louse infestation frequency in guidance and high schools students of Sanandaj County and related factors on it, 2017.Objectives: In this study we evaluated the frequency of head louse infestation in guidance and high schools students of Sanandaj County and related factors.Material and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. The population was guidance and high school children students of Sanandaj County. The samples were 802 students from Sanandaj city that selected based cluster method. The data were collected using a standard questionnaire. The data were analyzed by SPSS ver. 20.Results: Totally, 26.7% of the examined students were infested to head lice. The highest and the lowest prevalence of head louse infestation showed in grade 12 and 11, respectively. There was relationship between grade and head louse infestation (p<0.001).Conclusion: The results revealed that lack of parental attention to personal hygiene of the students and less attention of the students to their hygiene are the most important factors of head louse infestation among examined students. Training classes about head lice and their control to improve knowledge and attitudes of parents and the students are recommended.
