Knowledge, Attitude and Practice (K.A.P) about Anthroponotic Cutaneous Leishmaniasis among Dwellers in Endemic areas in Kerman City, Southeast of Iran

Background: Anthroponotic Cutaneous leishmaniasis (A.C.L) has long been known as a significant public health concern in Kerman city, Southeast of Iran.Objectives: This study was aimed to conduct a K.A.P study regarding to A.C.L in endemic areas in Kerman city.Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from January to March 2019 in Kerman city using a structured questionnaire. Three endemic areas including Allahabad, Shahrak Sanati and Sarasiab, in Kerman City with indigenous A.C.L cases during the previous years and a high potential for sand fly breeding were selected, and collect data was conducted by a well briefed team of vector biology and control students. Collected data were analyzed by using SPSS version 22.Results: Totally, 195 residents took part in this survey. The results showed that, the mean of age of participants in the study was 45.68 ± 3.7 and 9..3 % males and 12.6 % females. Most of participants (62.4%) heard of the leishmaniasis and are familiar with this disease. The results showed that 34.9% of the participants in this study had diploma education and 43.1% had under diploma education. The mean of participant’s knowledge score regarding to prevention and control of leishmaniasis were (Mean±SD) 14.82 ±7.11, (Score: Minimum 0, Maximum 28). Knowledge of female was higher than male (P-value=0.78). The majority (87.6%) of participants had favorable attitude towards the treatment and control of leishmaniasis.Conclusion: In conclusion, the participants in this survey have weak knowledge regarding to leishmaniasis. It is suggested to perform educational program in order to improve the dweller s knowledge level in endemic areas in Kerman city
