چکیده مقاله:

Background: Scorpions are one of the most important groups of venomous animals. They are potentially fatal arthropods. One way to identify scorpions is the method of measuring morphometric indices. Hemiscorpius lepturus is classified in the Liochelidae family. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the size of orphometric indices of H. lepturus.Materials and Methods: The present study was conducted in some counties of Fars. Scorpions were collected from seven counties, Larestan, Farashband, Darab, Zarghan, Rostam, Marvdasht and Mamasani. The most important morphometric indices included whole body length, pedipalp length, length and width of carapace, leg segments, abdomen and tail segments, as well as the size of poison gland and pectines number and length were scored using a Collis-Vernier caliper scale. Results: In this study, 10 males and 7 female specimens of H. lepturus were measured. Statistical analysis showed significant differences between males and females indices. Indices were measured and in all female indices were greater than male except whole body length in males (72.20±14.00) versus females (59.24±7.34).Conclusion: In H. lepturus whole body length, pedipalp length, number and length of pectines and length of tail were selected as taxonomic indices.
