چکیده مقاله:

Background: Leishmaniasis is one of the most important vector-born zoonosis that transmits to human by sand fly species. The disease is transmitted by the infected female sand flie s.Objectives: The current study was carried out to identify dominant species of sand- flies in Dezful, Khuzestan Province.Materials and Methods: Sand fly specimens were collected by using sticky traps from indoors and outdoors of different parts of Dezful city, during 2018-2019. All sandflies were identified based on external and internal morphological characters of the head and genitalia of both males and females.Results: In this study, a total of 2132 specimens were collected, P. papatasi was the dominant species (89%) and the least species in this study was S.sintoni (0.8%).Conclusion: Considering the presence P.papatasi as the dominate species in the region,which is component of disease vectors of the rural type of cutaneous leishmaniasis, the city s health system must take a necessary action for controlling cutaneous leishmaniasis
