چکیده مقاله:

Background: The blood groups type relation to diabetes mellitus and its macrovascular complications, including ischemic heart disease, have been demonstrated in previous studies, specifically in females. The purpose of present study was to evaluate the blood groups correlation with diabetic nephropathy (DN), one microvascular complication of diabetes mellitus.Materials and Methods: This case-control study was performed on 272 diabetic female patients referred to Sari Academic Endocrinology clinic. Out of participants included the study, 114 patients suffered from Nephropathy, and 158 patients had not DN. Two groups were matched about Age, diabetes duration, blood pressure and glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C). Blood group evaluation was conducted based on agglutination standard assay .P value less than 0.05 considered significant. Results: The mean age of participants was 57.20 ± 2.3 and 58.48 ± 0.83 years and average duration of diabetes was 12.3 ± 4.04, 11.59 ± 4.04 years in case and control groups respectively (p> 0.05).Lipid profile and TSH plasma level were not significantly different between two groups and any of participant were not smoker. The most blood group was O+ in both groups; 34.2% in group with DN and 36.7% in group without Nephropathy (p=0.67). The others blood groups including A, AB, B and Rhesus (Rh) factor were not significantly different between two case and control groups too (p=0.73, 0.70 ,0.94 and 0.45 respectively). Conclusion: According to results of present study, we did not find correlation between diabetic nephropathy and blood groups type in type diabetic women.
