چکیده مقاله:

Backgrounds: It has been supposed that early menarche is related to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes. We purposed to investigate this association among reproductive age women.Material and Method : For the aim of our study, non-menopausal participants of the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study, were selected and their diabetes and pre- diabetes status were evaluated. Diabetes and pre-diabetes was described according to the American Diabetes Association 2013.Result: Mean age at menarche was 13.3 ±1.5 years. Logistic regression analysis showed that there was a statistically significant difference in the risk of diabetes and pre-diabetes between women with age at menarche <11 years and women with the reference group, 13≤menarcheal age≤14 years, (OR=3.55, 95% CI: 1.6-7.8 and OR=2.55, 95% CI: 1.4-4.8, respectively). This association remained statistically significant after adjustment for confounders. Conclusion: Age at menarche could be considered as a potential risk factor for type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes
