Comparison of salivary IgA, tear IgA and serum IgE in patients suffering from chronic rhinosinusitis

Objective; Chronic rhinosinusitis is one ofthe most common inflammatory diseasesaround the world which imposes two percentof the world population. Studying the impactof chronic inflammation on immunoglobulinproduction is a subject of differentinvestigations. This study conducted toevaluate the effect of chronic inflammationon secretory immunoglobulin productionand allergic reaction. Therefore, in thecurrent research, we compared salivary IgA,tear IgA and serum total IgE levels ofpatients suffered from chronic rhinosinusitiswith normal subjects to reveal the upregulation of these immunoglobulins inchronically inflamed mucosa.Patients and Method; we monitoredimmunoglobulins levels of 28 participantsincluding 14 patients with chronicrhinosinusitis and 14 normal control whichassayed by Elisa for total IgE and directimmunoenzymatic determination forsalivary IgA and tear IgA.Result; there were no significant changes inthese immunoglobulin levels as compared tocontrols. P value of salivary IgA was 0.963,for tear IgA, it was P=0.862 and for serumIgE became P=0.068.Conclusion; Our study indicated thatallergic reaction and mucosal immunitymediated by salivary, lacrimal IgA andserum IgE didn’t play an important role inchronic inflammation.
