Impact of Aeolian dust accumulation on some biochemical parameters of cow-tail shrubs (Smirnovia iranica) leaves in the desert regions of Kashan, Iran

Dust storms are common natural hazards that lift dust particles to extend distances from specific origin. This phenomenon is one of the most prevalent factors that threatens the survival of desert plant species. Therefore, the effect of Aeolian dust accumulation on some biochemical parameters in Smirnovia iranica was evaluated. Changes in chlorophyll a (Chl. a), chlorophyll b (Chl. b) and total carotenoids were analyzed in the course of dust accumulation during April (Ap), April and May (AM), and April, May and June (AMJ) periods, respectively. The results obtained from the analysis of variance indicated that there was a significant difference among different dust-loading periods of S. iranica in terms of the characteristics mentioned.
