Endometrial adenofibroma, a case report

Introduction:Adenofibroma is a type of mixed mesodermal tumor that both epithelial and stromal components are benign, and often originate from endometrium in postmenopausal age. Uterine adenofibroma is an extremely rare tumor and this lesion must be differentiated from some benign or malignant lesions of the uterus, particularly adenosarcoma. Because being so rare and because of importance of such histopathology in post menopausal age it was decided to introduce our case.Case report:A 63 years old woman, parity 9, menopause with history of prolonged and severe no bloody vaginal discharged in 3 months duration was referred to our center. Trans vaginal ultrasonography revealed an hyper echoic area 65*37*33mm in dimension inside the endometrial cavity. suspicious to severe endometrial hyperplasia or malignancy. tumor marker tests (BHCC, LDH,αFP,CA125,CA19-9& CEA) were in normal limit. Endometrial biopsy by piplle was unsatisfactory for diagnosis. Total abdominal hysterectomy was done and the result of histopathology confirmed endometrial adenofibroma 70*47*40 mm in dimension..Conclusion:Presence of hyper echoic area of endometrium with complain of prolonged vaginal discharge in post menopause patients could attribute to endometrial adenofibroma.
